A palette from an ordinary walk

Finding a starting point in the colors you almost pass by.

Notice what repeats

A rust-colored gate, a pale wall, a shadow with more blue than expected: a walk can offer a palette before it offers a subject. The fictional Mara Vale practice begins with these small observations.

Keep the first collection small

Choose three or four colors that feel connected. A compact palette creates a useful constraint, leaving room to explore differences in warmth, weight, and proportion rather than collecting every possible hue.

Let the painting change the memory

A painting need not reproduce the walk. It can rearrange what stayed with you. The work in this portfolio is generated concept art, built to explore that relationship between observed color and imagined place.
